Big Birthday Bash – Wednesday 14^th April at Port Macquarie Library – decorate a library bag and make a badge

Travelbugs - a travelling bug show, Thursday 15^th April at Port Macquarie Library – a fun interactive workshop for 5-12 year olds

Beautiful & Beastly Bugs – National Parks & Wildlife workshops at Wauchope (Thursday 8^th April) and Laurieton (Friday 16^th April) Libraries, suitable for kinder to year 4

Wauchope Book Club continues to grow in 2009. Attendees of the monthly meetings, held here at Wauchope Library,  are now busily organising a Literary Lunch for the local community. They are fortunate enough to have secured a guest speaker in the former NSW State Coroner, author, and now recent Port Macquarie retiree, Derrick Hand. Derrick’s book, aptly titled ‘The Coroner’, chronicles many of the notorious cases he has been involved in over his career. They include such well-known cases as Michael Hutchence, Kerry Whelan, and Anita Cobby, to name a few.

The Literary Lunch will be held at the Traveller’s Rest Hotel, Long Flat on Thursday 24th September at 12pm. Tickets are $20 each and include a two-course luncheon, tea or coffee, and of course an enthralling talk from Derrick Hand. Tickets can be purchased at any of Port Macquarie-Hastings’ Libraries. Places for this event are very limited however, so book early to secure a place.

Wauchope Library has space for one more magazine, and we can’t decide what to pick……but you can help!

All you need to do is either fill out a suggestion slip at Wauchope Library, comment on this blog post with your suggestion, or phone your suggestion through to 6581 8162. The magazine with the most individual requests will be deemed winner and will go on to take it’s rightful place among Wauchope’s periodically elite.

Don’t forget to leave your borrower number with us so we can let you know if your suggestion was successful.

Thanks to all who attended Wauchope Library’s big book launch this morning. The event was a huge success, with people politely yet forcefully stomping on toes and elbowing each other in the face to get to the crisp new items. Congratulations to the winners of our lucky door prizes (how many doors have we got anyway?!), some of whom were lucky enough to drive home with a brand new, custom-built, fuel-injected V8 pen.

As of yet no one to my knowledge has become ill or died from my cooking this morning, so that’s certainly a plus -  though I believe salmonellosis has an 8-48 hour incubation period….

Insurance issues aside, we had a great morning so thanks again to everyone involved! Don’t forget the new items will stay on display at Wauchope for the next week so if you haven’t had a chance to have a look come in and say hi!
