We have some wonderful activities at the Library during the Easter School Holidays:

Cosplay @ Port - Sunday 11^th April at Port Macquarie Library – dress up as your favourite Anima or Manga character

Big Birthday Bash – Wednesday 14^th April at Port Macquarie Library – decorate a library bag and make a badge

Travelbugs - a travelling bug show, Thursday 15^th April at Port Macquarie Library – a fun interactive workshop for 5-12 year olds

Beautiful & Beastly Bugs – National Parks & Wildlife workshops at Wauchope (Thursday 8^th April) and Laurieton (Friday 16^th April) Libraries, suitable for kinder to year 4

Bali assignment

We have noticed a huge interest in Bali from primary school students in the area. Most of the books the library owns are already out on loan, so we thought we’d provide some alternatives.

Please see the attached document for information and further links on Indonesia and Bali from sites such as The National Library of Australia, The World Fact Book and the Library of Congress (to name just a few).

Bali Internet Links

The reference collection at Port Macquarie has the World Book Encyclopedia of People and Places and the Junior Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations available for photocopying.

Hastings Libraries Christmas Closures

Just a quick note to let all our patrons know that the Laurieton & Wauchope branches will be closed from 5pm on Christmas eve and will reopen on the Monday 4th of January 2010. Port Macquarie library will be closed on the 25th, 26th & 28th of December 2009 and the 1st of January 2010. Wishing all of our patrons a happy and safe Christmas.

The Rainbow Beach Man

During Naidoc Week local Worimi Elder, Les Ridgeway, released his Biography titled :”The Rainbow Beach Man” . Born during the Great depression Les struggled against adversity and discrimination.The eldest son of a family of eight, he was raised in straightened circumstances on Reserves in Karuah, Port Stephens and Purfleet. Like the ebb and flow of the waves on Rainbow Beach where he now resides, Les’s life has taken many directions. From Assistant Manager on the remote Murrin Bridge Aboriginal Station to Senior Welfare Officer at Moree, Les was recruited by Charles Perkins to join the fledgling Commonwealth Department of Affairs. Les works for the benefit of his people. He has a multitude of stories to tell and loves to share his life’s experiences. He recently addressed the Book Lovers Group at Laurieton Branch Library and his audience were totally absorbed with Les’s powerful life story which was written by John Ramsland. Add your name to the reserve list as this is well worth reading.

2008 Hastings Festival of Stories

During the October School Holidays, we will be sharing stories around the beautiful Hastings. Every time you go to an event, you will receive a ticket to go into a Grand Prize Competition. Just take you ticket back to your local library. Prizes will be drawin on Friday 17th Ocotber. The Festival will be launched with a visit from author John Marsden.

The programme features Train Tales @ Kendall School of Arts Hall, Tales from Afar on the Chinese Junk, The Sanke Man @ Wauchope Library, a Storytelling Tent at the Community Celebration Day, a Crazzzzzzy Day @ Port Macquarie Library and the biggest and brightest Carnivale @ Dunbogan Hall.
